Why is it Called Muharraq?

Many legends have been around this spot, and there is no valid reason why it’s called Muharraq.
Some have speculated that the name was chosen to honor Imru’ al-Qays, the renowned poet Muharraq who resided in the region.
Some have claimed that the name Muharraq refers to the ceremonial burning of deceased corpses since the word muharraq means “burning” in Arabic. It also gave rise to the title Muharraq because archaeologists discovered several burial sites that dated back more than 5000 years. And it is for this reason Bahrain is frequently referred to as the “Isle of Eternity.”

History of Muharraq

Founded in 1783, Muharraq has inaugurated by Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fateh.
