Things to do in Kuwait City

Kuwait City is a vibrant destination full of culture, history and entertainment. With so many things to see and taste, it can take time to define where to start. From exciting attractions to delicious cuisine, there’s something for everyone in Kuwait City! Here we look at the top 5 activities you should take advantage of when you visit.

Kuwait Tower

Three interconnected towers on Dasmani’s Arabian Gulf Street make up the Kuwait Tower.

The tower’s Main Sphere houses various eateries and meeting rooms, while the Viewing Sphere, located atop the tower, rotates to provide a breathtaking panorama of the city below.

The third tower contains the machinery to provide power to the first two and some areas of Kuwait. The second tower stores water. The towers, constructed a year after Kuwait gained independence from England, represent the country’s economic revival. The towers blend modern architecture with Islamic history and are frequently compared to the thin minarets of Samarkand and Bukhara mosques.

It’s one of the awesome things to do in Kuwait City. The Avenues is also comes atop of the most-visited shopping malls in Kuwait. The Rai district of Kuwait, between the Fifth Ring Road and Al Ghazali Highway, is where you’ll find Avenues Mall.

The Avenues, a shopping centre with more than 800 retailers, has recently expanded with 300 more outlets to its mall, souk, and grand avenues, among other sections. The mall features well-known international brands like Charlotte Tilbury and Forever 21 and smaller, independent boutiques like Jack Wills and Nike.

Tareq Rajab Museum

Across the street from the New English School is where you’ll find the first museum.

Before using Google Maps to get there, you might think it’s one tourist spot. But it’s– there were two museums in the area.

This place comprises the artefacts of the first minister of Kuwait, Tareq Sayyed Rajab, and his British wife, Jehan Wellborne.

Islamic art, ceramics, gold and silver jewellery, metal and glass works, clothing and pottery, Bahraini pearls, manuscripts, musical instruments, and so much more are all part of this museum’s extraordinary collection.

An extensive collection of Islamic calligraphy, ancient Korans, and the renowned Ka’aba covers were displayed at this museum dedicated to Islamic art.

While the museum’s exterior is impressive, the interior is relatively small and can be explored in less than half an hour.

You can explore the Islamic Art Museum and then drive to the main museum a few blocks away. It may not look like much from the outside, but once you get to the basement where the museum is housed, you’ll see that it has far more exhibits and is considerably more significant than the Islamic Art Museum. This little museum is located in the basement of a villa in Jabriya and will immerse you in history and take you back in time.

There is Area A and Area B in the museum. The items in the ethnographic collection come from all over the world, such as Iran, Afghanistan, India, Tibet, Bhutan, Ethiopia, etc.

The ethnographic collection is uncommon, distinctive and spectacular from the complexities of the weaves and embroidery in the fabrics, the designs of gold and silver jewellery and the artwork of pottery, metal and glassware.

There will be no less than two hours of jaw-dropping wonderment ahead of you.

National Museum

The National Museum, designed by French architect Michel Ecochard, accurately portrays Kuwait’s history and culture. Formerly the home of the Al Sabah royal family, the museum now serves as a cultural institution. Archaeology, Heritage, and the Planetarium are the three primary sections.

Much of it was destroyed during the Gulf War, although it has been rebuilt. Most notably, there is a bronze age collection from Failika Island. Not long behind is the Heritage area, which features scale models of everyday life in Kuwait. The horizontal dome-shaped Planetarium is the first in the Gulf region.

Opening time: Daily. Also, you can call the museum to double-check the visiting times.

Marina Mall

Indeed, one of the best things to do in Kuwait is to visit its shopping malls. This place is no exception. Marina Mall is the second-largest mall in Kuwait, and it can be found right on the beach in Salmiya, right off the road that leads to the Arabian Gulf.

Along with its 500+ stores, the Marina Mall is also home to several well-known brands, restaurants, a promenade, a movie theatre, and a hotel.

It’s a piece of the Marina World complex, a significant commercial, cultural, and residential development in Kuwait.
